Watch: Rob Gronkowski returns to Gillette Stadium, making guest appearance at Morgan Wallen concert

In the 2010s, it was commonplace to witness a crowded Gillette Stadium crowd cheering for Rob Gronkowski on Sunday afternoons for almost ten years. He drew another eruption Saturday night.

On the second night of Morgan Wallen’s performance in Foxborough, Gronkowski made an appearance at Gillette. In the event on Friday night, Mike Vrabel, the current coach of New England, walked Wallen out from the back towards the stage area as part of his introduction. And Gronkowski made an appearance on the video board on Saturday night to stroll with Wallen while holding a guitar with a Patriots motif and sporting a jersey with the number 617 across the front.

However, Gronkowski didn’t simply go onto the stage. He gave the guitar to Wallen, who returned it to him like a football in true Gronk manner. On his approach to the stage, Gronkowski spiked that instrument into the floor.

Gronkowski’s visit follows his hint that he might sign a one-day contract to formally retire as a Patriot in the near future. He made his name as one of the NFL’s greatest tight ends with the Patriots, but after retiring with the Patriots, he followed Tom Brady to Tampa Bay and ended his career there.

Gronkowski seemed to grow emotional after Brady’s statue was unveiled, and soon after, he declared his intention to retire in New England.

Of course, Gronkowski maintains close ties to the NFL and the Patriots even after retiring. He frequently appears on Fox NFL Sunday and co-hosts a podcast with fellow former Patriot Julian Edelman.

Gronkowski has once again been involved in the New England community, having opened the Gronk Playground in Boston this week.

Gronkowski enjoyed himself at Gillette Stadium once more prior to formally signing his second Patriots retirement. And the surprise was well received by the Foxborough audience.
