Donna Brazile, the former head of the Democratic National Committee and the former leader of the DNC’s Voting Rights Institute, stated that there is no reason to go back in time just because Vladimir Putin gave him some political advice.
During his meeting with the president of Ukraine on Monday, President Donald Trump declared his intention to sign an executive order ending mail-in voting before the 2026 midterm elections.
The president then acknowledged that he had spoken with Putin in Alaska, where the Russian president informed him that his election had been rigged due to mail-in voting.
But Democrats are more worried about Trump’s ability to mobilize states to stop mail-in voting than they are about his executive order.
None of this is anything he can order. Eric Holder, the current head of the National Democratic Redistricting Committee (NDRC) and former Obama’s attorney general, said he [Trump] hopes he will force state governments to do what he cannot.
Significant progress has been made in enabling people to vote early or by mail. Brazile goes on to say that any attempts to limit that accessibility will only hurt our nation. In Florida, Donald Trump has cast two ballots by mail in 2020. On Friday, he conferred with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the matter.
Brazile observes that most contemporary democracies provide their residents with the means to cast their ballots early or by mail. or, in certain situations, a same-day registration vote. Brazile adds that after winning a number of states, including North Carolina, Donald Trump profited from early voting in the 2024 election cycle.
The twice-elected president is advised by the veteran democratic strategist to consult with the RNC, state governors, and secretaries of state before proposing an executive order. [National Committee of Republicans] At the DNC next week, Brazile will sponsor a resolution on protecting the right to vote for all Americans.
