A historic, first-of-its-kind Mavs Sports Management Major will be introduced by the Dallas Mavericks and Paul Quinn College, giving students the chance to learn about all facets of the sports business. Leadership, Innovation, Sports Management, Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Networking (LISTEN) is a cutting-edge degree program that aims to develop a talent pipeline, promote career preparation, and provide students with the skills necessary to drive change.
Cynt Marshall, the former CEO of the Dallas Mavericks and the founder and CEO of Marshalling Resources, was the special convocation speaker at the Mavericks and Paul Quinn College’s official launch and celebration of the Mavs Sports Management Major. Mavs Care packages and festivities, which include necessities for the dorm and other assistance, will be given to Mavs Major students.
The Mavericks will continue to develop deliberate, long-term integration with Paul Quinn’s students beyond the launch, which includes:
- Speaker series and weekly guest lecturers, featuring Mavericks executives, partners and sponsors.
- Hands-on curriculum, including case studies, creative briefs and student-led business solution presentations for real-world Mavericks business scenarios.
- Campus engagement, hosting sponsored events throughout the year featuring entertainment, gifts and community celebrations.
- Entrepreneurship support through integration into the Mavs Business Assist program.
- Residence hall renovation with a Mavericks custom-designed mural, representing the commitment to student success and community pride.
The Mavericks’ collaboration with Dallas’ sole HBCU is a component of their Take ACTION! initiative, which aims to confront racial injustices and disparities, advance social justice, and create long-lasting change in North Texas. Visitmavs.com/MTA to learn more about the Mavs Take ACTION! platform.

A group of preachers from the African Methodist Episcopal Church in Austin, Texas, established Paul Quinn College, a private, four-year institution with a liberal arts focus, in 1872. Originally, the school was established to educate emancipated slaves and their children. Under the motto WE above Me, Paul Quinn enthusiastically teaches kids of all colors and socioeconomic backgrounds today. It is America’s first Urban Work College and the only federally accredited work college that serves minorities. Considered one of America’s most inventive universities, Paul Quinn consistently pushes the limits of academia and community service in its effort to end intergenerational poverty.
