Trevor Story gives Red Sox MLB-best 10th walk-off win of season and a 2-1 victory over Marlins

In the ninth inning, Boston’s third hit of the game, Trevor Story, with the bases loaded and no one out, bounced one through the drawn-in infield, and the Red Sox defeated the Miami Marlins 2-1 on Friday.

Boston has the most walk-off victories in the majors with ten this season.

To begin the ninth inning, Josh Simpson (2-2) walked Alex Bregman and Roman Anthony. Simpson struck Jarren Duran with a fastball to load the bases after he was squared around to bunt. Story ended it with a chopper past the second baseman after Calvin Faucher entered the game.

Story singled to start the fifth inning after Sandy Alcantara, the Marlins starter, retired the previous 12 batters. Before Anthony walked with two outs in the sixth and scored to make it 1-1 on Bregman’s double, Alcantara retired the next five as well.

The victory came thanks to a spotless ninth inning from Aroldis Chapman (4-2).

Before departing the game with one on and one out in the seventh inning, Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito struck out five batters and held Miami to one run on seven hits and a walk. He was replaced by Justin Wilson, who ended the inning by getting Xavier Wilson to ground into a double play.

Lucas Giolito undoubtedly adores pitching at Fenway.

Story was successful 21 out of 21 times when he stole second base in the fifth inning. Since the AL began keeping track of caught stealing statistics in 1920, this is the longest single-season stolen base streak for a Red Sox player.

On Saturday, Boston RHP Brayan Bello (8-6, 3.25) will play Miami RHP Cal Quantrill (4-9, 5.09 ERA) in the series’ second game.
