Man charged with assaulting federal agent with submarine sandwich in D.C.
Washington (AP) Attorney General Pam Bondi announced on social media Thursday that a man who was charged with a felony for throwing a sandwich at a federal law enforcement agent in the nation’s capital had been sacked from his position at the Justice Department.
The White House increased a rise in law enforcement patrols in Washington this week, and a video of Sean Charles Dunn scolding a group of federal agents late Sunday went viral online. According to a court document, Dunn tossed a sub-style sandwich at a Customs and Border Protection officer, leading to his detention on an assault allegation.
According to a department official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a personnel matter, Dunn, 37, of Washington, was an international relations expert in the criminal division of the Justice Department.
As we strive to refocus DOJ, this is an illustration of the Deep State that we have been facing for the past seven months, Bondi wrote. You will not continue to disrespect our government and law enforcement while working in this administration.
A former FBI agent who was accused of supporting rioters during the siege of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and participating in a mob attack on the building is still employed by the Justice Department. Jared Lane Wise, a former FBI supervisory agent, is currently advising Justice Department pardon lawyer Ed Martin Jr., a key player in President Donald Trump’s effort to rig the 2020 election.
According to a police affidavit, Dunn confronted a group of CBP officials at approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday, shouted at one of them, poked a finger in his face, and called him a fascist. According to the affidavit, an observer’s video shows Dunn hurling a sandwich at the agent’s chest.
You’re here, but why? You’re not welcome in my city! Police said that Dunn yelled.
Dunn attempted to flee but was caught, according to the police.
An email requesting comment was not immediately answered by Dunn’s lawyer.
Trump’s efforts to overwhelm the city with federal officers and National Guard troops coincided with the tragedy. City officials point to data that shows violent crime is at a 30-year low, despite Trump’s claims that crime in the city has reached emergency levels.
