Veronica Burton, a native of Newton, has found a home with the Golden State Valkyries across the nation.
After scoring 3.1 points per night for the Connecticut Sun the previous season, Burton, a former standout player for Newton South and Northwestern, is now averaging 11.2 points per game. Her consistent play has contributed to the first-year team’s 17–15 record, which included an unexpected postseason spot.
She had a career-high 30 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds in an 88-83 victory over the Washington Mystics on Wednesday night, her greatest performance to date. Burton became the third player in history to achieve 30-5-5 on an expansion team after shooting 10 of 13 from the field, including 6 of 9 from three.

In addition, she joins Sabrina Ionescu and Napheesa Collier as the third player in league history with 30 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds on 75 percent shooting.
Burton’s success, according to Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase, is a result of her motivation to work out early, take advantage of her off days, and put in extra effort.
To be honest, a lot of it is related to her sacrifices, hard ethic, and heart, Naka told reporters Wednesday.
When I told Golden State head coach Natalie Nakase that Veronica Burton had been the third-ever player in WNBA history with 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists on 75 percent shooting, her response was crucial. She begged me to reiterate those statistics and claimed her heart is full.MbzU8Nen73 Pic.twitter.com/
Burton wants to watch her clips to see how she can get better as soon as the Valkyries board the plane, according to Nakase.
According to Nakase, it’s her personal belief. It’s what her teammates think. I believe that she is currently thriving when placed in a loving, nurturing home with a let-it-fly attitude.
At the moment, Burton is ranked second on DraftKings (+250), behind Atlanta Dream player Allisha Gray (+200).
