Houston, TX – A new tropical disturbance has developed in the western Caribbean and is moving northwest toward the Yucatan Peninsula, forecasters said Tuesday night.
The system is currently producing tropical rain as it tracks toward the Yucatan. It is expected to cross the peninsula before entering the Bay of Campeche later this week.
Low Development Chances
According to meteorologists, there is a 20% chance the disturbance could strengthen into a tropical depression or tropical storm. Its path and intensity remain uncertain until it moves across land and reaches the Gulf of Mexico.
Potential Impacts for Texas
The disturbance is forecast to enter the Gulf by Thursday. While it’s too early to determine exact impacts for Houston and Southeast Texas, the most likely scenario is periods of tropical rain late in the week. If the system strengthens in the Bay of Campeche, impacts could be more significant for both Mexico and Texas.
Stay Updated
Forecasters urge residents to monitor updates closely, as the system only began forming Tuesday and could still change in strength and track.
