A Mass. beach is one of the best in the U.S., according to Dr. Beach
The top four sandy locations on the Action Network’s 2025 list of America’s beaches with the lowest risk of theft were Cape Cod National Seashore, Marconi Beach (part of the Cape Cod National Seashore), Old Silver Beach in Falmouth, and Siasconset Beach on Nantucket. Massachusetts topped the list. Also in the top 12 was Reid State Park in Maine.
Millions of Americans are traveling to the shore with friends and family as the summer heat heats up, but crowded beaches can also draw opportunistic criminals, according to The Action Network. Wallets, phones, and purses left unattended while swimming or walking are common targets, especially in places where property crime is more prevalent.
To identify theft-related dangers in the neighborhoods around more than 500 beach attractions across the United States, the research team used CrimeGrade.org to examine crime records by zip code. The study concentrated on four crime categories—robbery, vehicle theft, burglary, and theft—that the researchers believed were most pertinent to beachgoers.
According to the survey, the beaches in Florida and New England, which are on the low-risk list, had the lowest rates of theft-related crime, making them among the safest places to spend a worry-free beach day.
Marconi Beach, Coast Guard Beach, Nauset Light Beach, Head of the Meadow Beach, Race Point Beach, and Herring Cove Beach are the six beaches that make up the Cape Cod National Seashore. Earlier this year, Dr. Beach rated Coast Guard Beach one of the top ten beaches in the United States.
According to the survey, the Cape Cod National Seashore, which is considered the safest place in America, has a 1.62 theft rate, a 0.29 robbery rate, a 0.47 vehicle theft rate, and a 1.23 burglary rate per 1,000 residents. There is a 0.95% implied likelihood of theft.
With a rate of 55.22 thefts, 2.48 robberies, 8.91 vehicle thefts, and 6.73 burglaries per 1,000 residents, Santa Monica State Beach in California has the highest risk of theft of any beach in America. There is a 25.29% implied likelihood of theft.
On the list of beaches with the highest risk of theft, California and Hawaii each have three beaches. The remaining beaches are located in Washington, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
At just 0.08 robberies per 1,000 residents, Reid State Park in Maine had the lowest rate of any beach.
