What to know about ‘Rage Against the Regime,’ a ‘festival of nonviolent resistance’ in Harvard Square this weekend

Cambridge Common in Harvard Square will host the nonviolent resistance festival Rage Against the Regime on Saturday.

According to the event press release, the festival will take place from 12 to 4 p.m. and will include poetry, live music, guerrilla theater, and ice cream (for the first 1,000 attendees). Its main focus will be on how attendees can use nonviolent action to express their anger at the Trump regime’s lawless rule.

We have marched. We have come together. We have voiced our opposition. According to the event notice, we are now stepping up our game.

Since Donald Trump returned to office in January, there have been numerous local demonstrations against the administration’s policies, this effort being the most recent. Both a demonstration in June opposing the U.S. bombing of a nuclear site in Iran and a Hands Off! march in April that focused on DOGE cuts to Medicaid, the National Institutes of Health, and the Department of Education drew sizable crowds to Boston.

According to organizers, the purpose of the nationwide mobilization, which will include hundreds of Rage Against the Regime events on Saturday, is to educate citizens about the strength of collective action and link them with local organizations defending constitutional rights.

The Meowtucket protest against JD Vance on Nantucket last weekend was organized by Cats on a Couch, MuckRock, and Indivisible Boston, among other local groups and social justice organizations that are tabling at the event.Additionally, local bands Ghosts and Shadows, Evan Greer, and The Femmes will perform live at the event.

According to a press statement from Mass 50501, a chapter of the cross-partisan organization that organized the event, “We are mobilizing in disciplined rage to resist as a fascist regime attempts to crush our freedoms.” The acronym for the group is 50 States, 50 Protests, 1 Movement.

Rebecca Winter, the executive director of Mass 50501, told Boston.com, “We hear loud and clear the rage that people have towards the oppressive policies and actions coming out of the federal administration.” Rallies are an excellent way to start a movement that will bring people together, but true success will only be achieved when we commit to persistent, transparent pressure and demand change.

The message indicates that a would-be king occupies the White House while Congress and the judges have resigned from their positions. Hundreds of thousands of federal employees have been let go by the regime. Millions of working and impoverished Americans have lost access to essential food assistance and healthcare services. In an attempt to remove our neighbors from our streets, it has dispatched hordes of ICE officers into our communities.

In favor of mutual aid, Rage Against the Regime invites participants to make a donation to Mass 50501.contributors who contribute $5 can receive a sticker, while those who donate $50 to $500 can receive a pin. Depending on the amount donated, contributors can gain titles like Oligarchy Obliterator.

According to the event release, “We will not comply, we will not be silent, and we will not stand down.” The time has come to speak up, get in the way, and get ready for the protracted fight against the tyranny.
