2 dogs die in Falmouth fire

A two-alarm fire in East Falmouth on Sunday afternoon claimed the lives of two pets.

Around 2:30 p.m., firefighters arrived at a residence on Lakeshore Drive. According to a notification from local fire officials, there was a fire in the basement and a lot of smoke pouring from the residence.

When firemen saw that the level above the basement was vulnerable in multiple places, they left the house after originally entering it.

According to officials, firefighters repositioned to launch an external attack and put out the fire. Crews were able to return and completely put out the fire after most of the smoke had left the structure.

Falmouth Hospital treated three occupants who were not inside the house when the firefighters arrived for fire-related injuries, none of which were deemed life-threatening. One firefighter was slightly hurt.

Regretfully, according to officials, the family’s two dogs were unable to escape the fire.

Investigations about the fire are still ongoing.
