Newport Folk Festival 2025: Live updates from the fest

  • 7 must-see acts at Newport Folk Festival this weekend

  • Ahead of local shows, Lukas Nelson son of Willie continues to prove he s his own man

This Friday through Sunday, the Newport Folk Festival returns for another year with folk-ish (with a strong theish flavor) performers giving their all on stage, lengthy lines of cyclists parking their bikes, lots of stops at water bottle filling stations, and, most importantly, dancing to the music.

People have been gathering in Fort Adams State Park to enjoy the sun, sea, and sunburn of the Newport Folk Festival for the past 65 years, hehe. Along with the forward-thinking offerings of bands Goose and Geese and a varied range of musicians from Public Enemy to Jeff Tweedy, this year’s packed schedule is expected to feature a variety of vocalists from Waxahatchee, one of Barack Obama’s 2024 favorites. (See Boston.com’s selection of acts you simply must see here.)

Newport Folk is known for its shocks and for selling tickets before the lineup is revealed. It must, after all, stand up to the pivotal moment in 2024’s A Complete Unknown, in which a teenaged Bob Dylan took the stage at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965 to deliver his contentious electric set.

Unable to obtain tickets or curious about performances you were unable to attend? From behind the barricade at Fort Adams State Park, here is the most recent information.
