Bill Belichick’s UNC team reportedly lands docuseries deal after all

Fans will be able to get a behind-the-scenes look at Bill Belichick in his first season at Chapel Hill.

Belichick’s North Carolina football program and Hulu are finalizing an agreement for the streamer to air a docuseries on the team,

Front Office Sports’ Ryan Glasspiegel reported

. It isn’t known what the docuseries will be called, but it will reportedly be produced by EverWonder Studio.

This isn’t the first time that Belichick’s UNC squad has come close to agreeing to terms on a deal to be a part of a docuseries. In February, it was reported that UNC would be featured on “Hard Knocks: Offseason” after zero NFL teams volunteered to be followed for that show.

However, it was reported shortly after that Belichick and UNC would no longer appear on “Hard Knocks.” Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, “played an instrumental role” in stopping the potential partnership as she requested to be heavily involved in the project,

The Athletic

reported in April

. It

was later reported by

The New York Times

that Hudson “demanded she be granted content approval and partial ownership of the show.”

Belichick, meanwhile, gave a different reasoning for why UNC’s deal to appear on “Hard Knocks” didn’t come to fruition.

“And the ‘Hard Knocks’ thing, you know, like, just for the record, ‘Hard Knocks’ is training camp,” Belichick

told the “Pivot Podcast” in May

. “And we’re not training camp. We’re just not. That’s not what we — that’s not what we are. You know, the drama of training camp, the who’s gonna cut and all that. Like, we’re a season, and they don’t want that.

“There’s film issues, too, but forget about the film issues. Like, just say you could straighten all those out. The ‘Hard Knocks’ just didn’t fit for us. That’s the bottom line.”

Belichick’s comments from the “Pivot Podcast” might be an indication that the Hulu docuseries will focus on UNC’s entire season. It wouldn’t be the first time that Belichick has allowed camera crews to follow him for an entire year. Belichick granted NFL Films behind-the-scenes access to the Patriots’ 2009 season for the inaugural edition of NFL Network’s “A Football Life.”

The news of UNC’s docuseries deal comes at the end of another week where Belichick’s name made multiple headlines. On Wednesday,

he fired back at Patriots owner Robert Kraft

over recent comments he made about his hiring in 2000. That same day, Belichick was able to flip the commitment of a four-star recruit (safety Jakob Weatherspoon) from Ohio State to North Carolina, securing a big recruiting win for the Tar Heels.

Belichick’s first season at UNC will officially kick off on Sept. 1, when it hosts TCU. Expectations on how the Tar Heels will do in Belichick’s first year seem to be wide-ranging, but DraftKings Sportsbook has placed their win total at 7.5 and is giving them the ninth-best odds to win the ACC (+4000).
