A man, age 41, has been identified as the suspect in the shooting deaths of a mother and daughter who occurred on Tuesday night in Compton. Homicide investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have made this identification.
Donte Lamont Brown is the individual that the investigators are looking for. According to the detectives, Brown is seen frequently in Long Beach and Compton, and he is believed to be a dangerous and armed individual. According to the sheriff’s department, Brown is the boyfriend of the victim La’von Hall, who was discovered dead beside her daughter Ma’Laysia Martin. Brown and Hall had a history of a strained relationship.
At around 7:05 p.m. on April 1, deputies responded to the junction of Caldwell Street and South Central Avenue in response to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered La’von laying on the ground, suffering from gunshot wounds. Ma’laysia was discovered by the authorities at the crossroads, suffering from gunshot wounds. She was sitting in the passenger seat of a vehicle.
At the scene, it was determined that both La’von and Ma’laysia had really passed away. According to the sheriff’s department, it is believed that Brown drove up beside the victims in their car while it was stopped at a red light and reportedly fired rounds into the vehicle. This is according to the sheriff’s department. Upon exiting the automobile, La’von fell to the ground after exiting the driver’s side of the vehicle.
After traveling across Central Avenue, the vehicle that was not being driven by a human driver eventually collided with a traffic signal pole. It was noticed that Ma’laysia was unconscious while sitting in the passenger seat.
