During the severe storms that are expected to hit Kentucky this week, the state of California will dispatch urban search and rescue firemen to the state in order to provide assistance.
“California understands the threat extreme weather poses and stands with Kentucky ahead of the storms set to impact their state,” said to California Governor Gavin Newsom. “These deployed resources will provide additional support to first responders across Kentucky to prepare and respond to storms.”
The sequence of storms is anticipated to bring about a severe weather danger that has the potential to bring about an unprecedented amount of rainfall and carries with it a significant likelihood of tornadoes that are catastrophic. Before the storms arrived, Governor Andy Beshear announced a state of emergency, which prompted the Federal Emergency Management Agency to ask for further assistance from the state of California.
“We are most concerned about the area of Western Kentucky that has gotten hit far too much, as well as a wider area of Western Kentucky,” Governor Beshear stated to reporters. Keep in mind that they can be powerful tornadoes with an EF-2 or higher rating. It is with great concern that we are concerned about the safety of people, particularly during the nighttime hours, because it is unfortunate that the most people have been killed by storms or tornadoes that strike while people are sleeping.
The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services has announced that it will be sending four firemen who have received specialized training in search and rescue to supplement the Incident Support team that is provided by FEMA.
“As Kentucky prepares for a series of dangerous storms, we’re proud to send California-based firefighters with expertise in responding to this type of weather,” said Nancy Ward, Cal OES Director of Operations. “Their experience will help bolster response efforts.”
The storms could bring hail and flooding for a period of four days, in addition to the possibility of tornadoes.
