Along with a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, the Sharks also sent forward Givani Smith to the Avalanche. In addition, the Avalanche sent forward Nikolai Kovalenko to San Jose along with a second-round pick in the 2026 draft and a conditional 2025 fifth-round draft pick.
Since 2022, Georgiev had been a member of the Avs.
Throughout his professional hockey career, Blackwood has played for the Sharks and the New Jersey Devils. In 2015, the Devils selected him in the draft.
As of right now, the Avalanche are 16–13-0.
“The team’s goaltending has been disastrous with a league-worst .856 save percentage, which is 15 points lower than the 31st-ranked team,” Nivison wrote on Wednesday.
Scott Wedgewood, an experienced backup goalkeeper, was also recently acquired by the Avs.
Pittsburgh will host the Avalanche’s next game on Tuesday night.
