Fire Displaces 100 Families from Westboro Apartment Building

Fire Displaces 100 Families from Westboro Apartment Building. Westboro A fire broke out at the Turnpike Road apartment building in Westboro, forcing about 100 families to evacuate their homes for a week.

Around 8:40 a.m. on Monday, firefighters say they were called to 293 Turnpike Road after receiving complaints of heavy smoke emanating from a seventh-floor unit.

Firefighters report significant water damage in addition to smoke-related issues.

On Monday morning, Sonia Pereira received a panicked call from her daughter regarding the fire while she was at work. “How do you displace a whole building; where do these people go at the end of the day?” Pereira replied. “It’s frustrating, it’s frustrating, I just want to go around cursing everyone out.”

Power restored next week

Residents claimed to have received letters from apartment management informing them that no one may remain in the building until Monday of next week while workers attempted to restore power due to the power outage.

Renters’ insurance wasn’t helping, according to Pereira. “It’s ridiculous with the economy today, trying to stay in a hotel no accommodations because there’s no accommodations, we have to figure out what to do, thank God we have family nearby,” Pereira said.

The main concern for locals like Abhishek Pandey, his spouse, and their infant is when they will be allowed to return to their apartments. “Everyone has the same question, and that’s the main one I have right now,” Pandey added.

Pandey stated that he and his family, like many locals, were heading to a hotel without knowing if they would receive payment. Investigations about the fire are still ongoing.
