Nearly Half of U.S. Retail Workers Considering Quitting Due to Safety Concerns

Nearly Half of U.S. Retail Workers Considering Quitting Due to Safety Concerns. According to a shocking study by Verkada and the Loss Prevention Research Council (LPRC), almost 40% of retail employees in the United States may leave their positions within a year because of safety concerns.

According to the State of Retail Safety Report, 27% of employees feel insecure at work, and more than half have experienced harassment or aggressiveness from customers.

62% of respondents said they haven’t increased their security procedures in the last 12 months, despite these concerns. The effects are evident: 37% of managers find it difficult to hire because of safety concerns, and 20% of employees actively seek safer positions.

Experts recommend taking action. “In order to safeguard their employees, retailers need to put safety first,” LPRC Executive Director Read Hayes stated. “Investments in security and a culture of care are essential for the industry’s future,” Alana O’Grady Lauk of Verkada continued.
