According to police, a man was shot and killed on Sunday night by a Santa Ana Police Department officer who was thought to be carrying a loaded rifle.
Police did, however, confirm that the rifle was eventually found to be a fake.
The agency reports that at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, officers were contacted regarding a guy loading a weapon in the vicinity of Broadway and 2nd Street.
The public was then warned by SAPD to avoid police operations in the same location at 6:22 p.m. via X, formerly Twitter.
According to the police, an officer shot the suspect after approaching him.
Authorities said the man was taken to the hospital after the gunshot and declared dead there.
Although the agency did not immediately release a name or known residence, they did identify the suspect as a male in his early 30s.
Police seized the firearm and subsequently determined it was a fake.

There are little details available, and police did not immediately elaborate on the events that led up to the shooting or if the suspect was deemed harmful to the public.
According to SAPD, no other cops or spectators were reported hurt during this event.
