Shooter Killed in Northwest Indiana Home Shooting, Two Others Dead, One Wounded

An suspected murder-suicide occurred inside a Portage, Indiana, home on Friday night, killing two individuals and injuring one more.

Portage police reported that they received a 911 call about a domestic disturbance at approximately 7:40 p.m. and responded to the residence in the 6300 block of Monument Avenue. The caller informed dispatchers that her father was armed with a gun after claiming that he was drunk and hurling objects inside the house.

The sound of gunfire followed the man’s statement that everyone in the house would perish, which operators could hear. Officers heard gunfire coming from inside the house as they were getting to the site.

Charles Manville, 45, was discovered dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after officers broke into the house. Additionally, they discovered Mandy Manville, his wife, 46, dead from what seemed to be gunshot wounds.

Another woman, age 21, had also been shot but lived. After being transported to a nearby hospital, she was evacuated to a trauma center.

During the incident, no officers fired their guns.

As of Saturday night, the motivation for the shooting was still unknown, and the surviving victim has not yet been able to give investigators a statement.

According to the police, Brandy Manville worked as an administrative assistant at Portage High School’s main office.

Court documents show that in July, Brandy Manville requested a restraining order against Charles Manville and filed for divorce.

Investigations into the shooting continued on Saturday night.
