WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana — West Lafayette police say that 44-year-old Dominic Cooley is the person they think is responsible for the attack that happened on Northwestern Avenue on Monday.
A news release from the police said that Cooley, who is from Lafayette, was recognized after being involved in a separate incident in Lafayette on Wednesday morning.
Around 10 a.m. Monday, West Lafayette police were called to the 500 block of Northwestern Avenue for a report of a battery. A man and a woman said they were beaten up by a white man wearing a dark jacket and a Colts baseball cap while they were walking along the street in front of Wang Hall. Both of the people who were attacked got minor bruises.
Police said the man-made “a strange comment about the world ending” before the attack and then left the scene.
West Lafayette police say Cooley has been arrested and that the public is not in any danger because of what happened. The criminal investigation and whether official charges will be brought are still being worked on by investigators and the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office.
