NEW YORK — Wednesday, police said they caught a man with a machine gun as he tried to walk into a Bronx subway tube.
At about 4:30 p.m., NYPD officers on patrol saw the suspect walking past a “no trespassing” sign and toward the opening of a northbound tunnel inside the Kingsbridge Road subway stop for the B and D lines. Tuesday, the police said.
Sosa, who is 21 years old, got angry when he was pulled over, and when the police moved in to arrest him, he fought back.
Police say the machine gun fell out of a bag he was carrying during the fight. Police say there was a full magazine and another gun part in the bag.
Sosa was charged with several gun crimes, including assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and criminal trespass. He was also found to be in control of a machine gun and 25 bullets of ammunition.
NYPD officials say that during the arrest, a witness got into a fight with the police kicked one officer’s body-worn camera onto the train tracks, and stole an officer’s cell phone.
Christopher Mayren, the suspect, was charged with criminal mischief, obstructing government operations, having stolen property, and aggravated harassment. Police said Mayren has been arrested before.
