MARLBORO COUNTY, S.C. — According to Chrysti Shain, Director of Communications for the South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC), two men were arrested on Tuesday after a big package of drugs and cellphones was found at Evans Correctional Institution in Bennettsville. The package had been dropped by drone.
Shain said that police stopped a car in the area and nabbed two men after the drone and package were found.
Marcus Maurice Cooper, 34, and Tauraz Marquel Ancrum, 26, both from North Charleston, were arrested and charged with giving illegal items to prisoners and having marijuana with the plan to sell it.
Shain said the illegal package had a lot of different things in it, like weed, cellphones and chargers, tobacco, rolling papers, cigars, lighters, digital scales, headphones, an iPad, a GPS monitor, batteries, and more.
When the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Department works with SCDC, they help keep illegal items out of our prisons.
Both guys are in the Marlboro County Detention Center while they wait for their bond hearing.
