Mississippi Worker Tragically Killed After Being Buried Under Hot Asphalt While Repairing Dump Truck

Police say a man was fixing a dump truck in Mississippi on Monday when hot asphalt fell on him and killed him.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said that around 10:30 a.m., officers were called to a report of a crash.

Wade said that the private worker who was supposed to pick up asphalt was found “buried under hot asphalt.”

“It looked like his dump truck was having some kind of problem,” he said.

Wade said that he got asphalt on him while working on the dump truck.

The Associated Press said that 41-year-old Darrell Sheriff was working on a hydraulic line under the truck when the door opened and asphalt fell on him.

Wade said that his family said he was a “good, hard-working family man.”

Wade said that the event seemed to have been a mistake, but police will continue to look into it.
