As our strong low moves into the Plains, it will pull down enough cold air through the atmosphere in the upper panhandle of Texas and the western panhandle of Oklahoma to cause heavy rain and showers that will turn into heavy, wet snow.
We might get 4-6″ of snow quickly across this area at times. The southeast corner of Colorado and parts of New Mexico could get even more. A Winter Storm Watch has been sent out by the National Weather Service for the areas in Texas and Oklahoma listed, as well as parts of Colorado and New Mexico. It will last through Wednesday night and Thursday.
Due to the difference in temperatures, places that don’t get snow should be ready for strong to severe thunderstorms. We’ll be keeping an eye on this risk for the rest of the Texas panhandle, where severe winds, big hail, frequent lightning, and heavy rain are all possible.
