Pedestrian accidents are still going up in Colorado. A father from Aurora is in the hospital after being hit by a car Saturday night. The car didn’t stop.
Aurora police say that 46-year-old Jason Johnson was hit on Geneva Street, just south of 16th Avenue, just before 10 p.m. on Saturday. He was only a few blocks away from his house.
The next day, Jason’s mom, Sandra Cox, got a very sad phone call.
Cox held back tears as she said, “I just don’t understand how someone can hit someone and then leave them there like trash.” “He said he had no idea what had happened.” He woke up in the hospital.
Because Jason is hurt so badly, he doesn’t remember everything about being hit. He had bleeds in his brain and abdomen, broken legs, cuts and scrapes on his face, and road rash.
“It’s okay if it was an accident. Those people must have been drunk or high because they took off like that. “They might not have had insurance or a license that was still good,” Cox said. “Anybody in their right mind, if it was an accident, would stop.”
Aurora cops say that there have been 172 accidents involving pedestrians and cars in 2024. Thirteen of them died.
While the driver is still on the loose, Cox is very thankful to the stranger who came to help.
“I want to meet and thank that person for stopping before he could’ve been hit by another car,” Sandra told me. “They did it even though they didn’t have to.” They could have just gone about their business, which is what many people do.
When police arrived Saturday night, there were no witnesses there. They haven’t been able to find any home videos of the crash. They are asking people who live nearby to check their cams.
At this point, there is no information on the suspect or the car of the suspect.
“I need to know what took place. “They need to be given the law,” Cox said. “He is stuck in bed and can’t feed himself.” It hurts to see your child lying around and unable to do anything because of someone else’s carelessness.
