Downtown Orlando Shooting Suspect Skips Court Appearance; Mother Attends in His Place

Orlando, Fla. – The 17-year-old guy who is accused of shooting two men with a handgun during Halloween celebrations in downtown Orlando and hurt eight others did not show up to court on Saturday morning.

Instead, Jaylen Dwayne Edgar’s mom stood next to the public attorney in the juvenile courtroom and looked very upset.

“Could you speak into the microphone?” The judge asked, “Just take a moment, collect yourself.”

This is all Edgar’s mom said. She didn’t say anything else as she left court.

The 17-year-old suspect has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and six counts of first-degree attempted murder, the police said.

A short time after the killing, State Attorney Andrew Bain said that Edgar might be charged as an adult.

The judge said the teen would have to stay in youth detention until his next court date. “He will be held in secure detention until his adjudicatory hearing,” she told us.

Attorney Albert Yonfa, who has nothing to do with the case, said that he thinks Edgar will be charged as an adult.

“The State Attorney has the right to directly file this individual as an adult even though he’s 17 years old because of the heinousness of the crime he’s being accused of,” he added.

The schedule for shooting

At 1:07 a.m. on Friday, gunfire was heard in downtown Orlando, according to Orlando police. This made thousands of people run for cover. After three minutes, police heard shots a block away.

A police officer said the suspect fired shots at them, and they quickly tackled him to the ground.

Eight people were hurt, and two men were killed. One of them went to the University of Central Florida. Police said seven people were shot and one was crushed as people ran away.

“Everyone knows that shooting people doesn’t help.” What did this person give up their life for? Because of some beef or something that will come out in the investigation. “We all know it won’t be the most important thing in the world,” said Eric Smith, chief of police in Orlando.

“So, it’s one of that kinds of things we need everybody’s help but we’ll continue to do what we do, we’ll continue to provide heavy security downtown, and have a large presence and be ready for anything that comes,” he stated.

The cops in Orlando want pictures or videos of the shooting.

The Orlando Police Department wants anyone who has pictures or videos of the killing in downtown Orlando to send them to them. This could help the police with their investigation.

After the shooting, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer turned off the downtown entertainment area for a short time, from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m.

He also said that sales of alcohol had to stop at midnight. The sales and curfew on booze would last for a week, until next Friday.

Orlando Rolon, who used to be the police chief of Orlando, said it was a good move.

“Somewhere during this conversation, there’s got to be some ground for some adjustment on how business is conducted in the downtown area,” he told me.
