Sierra Nevada and Northern Nevada Will Get Snow and Rain From a Storm System

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, it will be a cold Halloween. Right now, temperatures are in the upper 40s to mid-50s in western Nevada and the mid-30s to mid-40s in towns in the Sierra. High places are feeling wind chills in the teens to low 30s because of gusty west winds. There have already been light snow showers in the Sierra overnight, with accumulations of a trace to 4 inches.

A new storm system will hit late Friday night or early Saturday afternoon, making it more likely that it will snow in the mountains and rain in the valleys. Rain is likely to start in northeast California between 5 and 7 PM PDT and move to the Tahoe area by midnight. From midnight to 8 a.m. PDT on Saturday, there will be the best chance of heavy rain in western Nevada. Up to an inch of snow could fall every hour in the eastern Sierra. During the event, the snow level would drop from 6,500 feet to between 5,000 and 6,500 feet.

On Friday at 5 PM PDT, a Winter Weather Advisory will go into place for the eastern Sierra. At 11 PM PDT, it will cover Mono County as well. Once this storm is over, it will be cooler and dry until early next week. By Tuesday night, there is a chance that a stronger cold front will bring more showers.
