LONG ISLAND CITY, Queens — A man was hit in the back of the head with a baseball bat in a Queens train station on Sunday night because he wouldn’t give money to a stranger.

According to the NYPD, the suspect approached the 21-year-old victim on the N-line platform at the Queensboro Plaza stop around 11:45 p.m. and asked for cash. Police say the attacker hit the victim in the head with a bat when he said no and then ran out of the station.

When the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, he was awake and aware.

The suspect was seen with a gray bag and an orange hoodie. No one has been caught yet.

This year, there have been 456 felony attacks in the city’s transit system. This is about 5% less than in 2023.
