ELMIRA, N.Y. — On Monday, police in Elmira arrested a woman because they said she got nearly $2,000 in benefits she wasn’t supposed to get.
There are several felony charges against 55-year-old Christina Woodard. On Monday, October 28, she was arrested on one count of welfare fraud in the fourth degree, one count of grand larceny in the fourth degree, and two counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree. These are all class E felonies.
Police say Woodard lied on two applications for public assistance to the Chemung County Department of Social Services by not giving information about her family income, which is required.
The Elmira Police say that Woodard got $1,792 in food stamp benefits that she wasn’t supposed to get.
