Felon who was found guilty faces new charges three years after serving 30 years in prison

A guy from Erie who killed a police officer 33 years ago is now being charged with new crimes.

Now, Michael Bibbs, 51, is back in police custody after the Erie County District Attorney said he made threats in the spring to kill several police officers and his neighbor.

Just three years ago, Bibbs got out of jail after 30 years for killing Richard Burchick.

At first, Bibbs pleaded guilty to these new charges of making terroristic threats and other charges.

The prosecutor in the case, Jeremy Lightner, said that Bibbs is now trying to withdraw his guilty plea and that everyone involved wants him to take a competency test.

Lightner also said that Bibbs would stay in jail until the end of his evaluation. After that, his desire to withdraw his plea would be looked at again.
