A Man From Erie Who Was Wanted in a Millcreek Road-rage Attack Was Caught After Being Chased From the City

A man from Erie was arrested late Friday afternoon after city police said he led them on a high-speed chase from Erie into Millcreek. He was wanted by Millcreek Township police on assault charges related to a reported road-rage incident in late August.

The 30-year-old Michael A. Rogers was formally charged on Saturday with several crimes, including felony counts of fleeing police and flight to avoid arrest, misdemeanor counts of causing an accident, and several summary traffic violations during the chase. In the Millcreek road rage incident, he was also charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, and stalking, according to court records.

Rogers is accused by Erie police of running away from a traffic stop that was tried on Friday around 5:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of West Eighth Street. Police say that someone saw Rogers and called Erie police because they knew Rogers was wanted in the Millcreek attack case. Deputy Chief Rick Lorah said Monday that when police saw the car Rogers was allegedly driving and tried to stop it near Frontier Park, the car sped off.

There was then a chase that went around parts of the city and onto Interstate 79 at speeds of more than 90 mph, Lorah said. Lorah says Rogers’ car got off the interstate at Kearsarge and went west on Interchange Road. It hit a sport-utility vehicle at Zuck Road, which caused the SUV to crash into a police car.

Rogers apparently ran into the woods and took off some of his clothes before police caught him. Lorah said that a woman who was with Rogers was also arrested.

In the Millcreek case for which Rogers was wanted, police in the township say he beat up another guy on August 30 in the 2600 block of West 38th Street. A motorcyclist told police that Rogers almost hit him with his car, so the motorcyclist started following Rogers’ car. When the motorcyclist approached Rogers, he punched the motorcyclist in the face, knocked him to the ground, and punched him again, Millcreek police said on Monday.

Police say the person had a broken nose and broken bones in their face.

Rogers was charged on Saturday and given a bond of $20,000 for each case. On his court docket sheets, there was no name of a lawyer for him.
