KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police in Kansas City, Missouri, have named the teen boy who was shot and killed inside a business on Wednesday afternoon.
Police in Kansas City say that on October 23, just after 3:30 p.m., they were called to the area of East 36th Street and Indiana Avenue because of reports of a shooting.
When police first got there, they said they saw an adult man with gunshot wounds inside a store. Later, it was proven that the victim was actually a boy, Eli Newton, who is 16 years old.
Officers tried to help Newton get better until emergency services came. Later, the police said he was dead at the scene.
Another person, an adult man, had been shot, according to KCPD. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that did not put his life in danger.
Early investigations suggested that the killing might have been caused by a fight inside the store. But the cops didn’t say anything about what the fight might be about.
Police said they have arrested a person of interest and are looking into the killing as a murder.
The KCPD wants anyone who knows anything about the killing to call Homicide Detectives at (816) 234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-8477. You can do this anonymously.
