Texas Girl, 5, Accidentally Shoots Herself; Stepfather Arrested While Out on Bond for Felony Gun Possession

Officials say a five-year-old girl in Texas shot herself by accident with a gun she found in her home.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that officers from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office went to the 8400 block of Parasol Lane, which is near Fairbanks North Houston Road, late Saturday night and found that the girl may have shot herself by accident.

The child was taken to the hospital by paramedics and had surgery there. It is believed that she will live.

Jason Nguyen, the girl’s 33-year-old stepfather, was caught on charges of having a weapon and cannabis on him while being a convicted felon. He was taken to the Harris County Jail.

He said that there were other kids and adults in the house at the time of the event.

The event is still being looked into.

Based on court records, Nguyen has been found guilty of several felonies and was sent to jail in 2014 for having a gun while being a felon.

Nguyen was caught again in August of this year and charged with having a weapon while being a felon.

Records show that he posted bail and was out on that bond when his stepdaughter killed herself.
