Woman Injured in Downtown Shootout Involving Stolen Vehicle; Suspect Believed to Be Wounded

IN MEMPHIS, Tenn.— Police in Memphis say a woman standing outside of a downtown hotel was shot at from a nearby car on Saturday night.

At 7:35 p.m., shots were fired from two cars on South Main Street near Nettleton Avenue, which is when Memphis police arrived. From what the police say, the woman who was taken to Regional One Hospital is not in serious condition.

Police say there was a gunfight between two groups of suspects near the hotel.

Reports say that investigators think one of the attackers was hurt in the shooting as well.

Memphis police say a Dodge Challenger was being driven by one group of suspects. At Doctor M.L.K. Jr. Avenue and South Second Street, the Challenger was found empty. The police found that the car had been stolen.

Police say the other suspects were in a silver car that took off on Main Street going south.

Someone in a white sedan jumped out of his car with an AK-47-style gun and opened fire on another car last month. People at a nearby dog park on Front Street had to run for cover.

Seventeen shooting holes were found on the side of the Malco Powerhouse Cinema across the street. No one was hurt in the dog park.

In the 1000 block of St. James Street, cops found a stolen white charger with blood and bullet holes not long after the shooting. Investigators say that two men, probably from the car, were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds to their legs.
