3 Dead, 8 Injured in Mississippi Trail Ride Shooting; Suspects at Large

Eight people were hurt when shots were fired at a trail ride in Holmes County, Mississippi. Three people were killed.

News station WJTV says the shooting happened on Highway 17 North around midnight on Saturday.

The sheriff of Holmes County, Willie March, told WJTV that some people went on a trail ride after Holmes County Consolidated Schools’ homecoming. March said that there was a fight between two young guys before the shooting.

The sheriff said that people are being looked for as possible shooters.

It was found that the three victims were Martel Gibson, 25, of Durant, Shundra Chestnut, 19, of Kosciusko, and John Jenkins, 19, of Durant.

The state capital, Jackson, is about 70 miles north of Holmes County.

A spokesman for the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation told CBS News on Saturday that they are helping with this case.

CBS News was told that there will be no more news until Monday.
