People in Texas have caught and charged a man with cruelty to non-livestock animals because he is accused of getting pets and then killing them.
On October 3, the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office was told that several dogs were stolen from homes in the area. Someone who called said that they thought someone was stealing dogs lived in the area.
As the deputies searched the Simms area, they went to the house where Stuart Duncan Hammonds and his partner lived. Ksla said they could smell what smelled like dead animals.
Seven animal bodies were found by deputies near the house and barn. Twelve of the bones they found were recognized as those of dogs. Some of those dog bones had damage to the heads, which suggests they may have been shot.
The sheriff’s office said they think Hammonds killed four of the dogs while he was angry with his lover. They also said that a witness told them that he killed all twelve dogs.
Hammonds was caught and charged with 12 counts of cruelty to animals that are not cattle. His bond has been set at $100,000.
Hammonds is said to have accepted some dogs through social media in addition to stealing dogs from neighbors.
