A helicopter hit a radio tower in Houston on Sunday night, setting off a large fire that killed several people.
At a news conference, Police Chief J. Noe Diaz said that the private chopper crash killed four people, including a child.
The Houston Fire Department first said the crash happened in the city’s Second Ward neighborhood. They said the chopper hit a radio tower and then started the fire at 7:54 p.m. local time.
Fire officials told the news gathering that a fire went up to three blocks before it was put out. At that time, all the shops in the area were closed.
Diz said it didn’t look like anyone on the ground was hurt. He said the plane was a Robinson R44 and that it had taken off from Ellington Field. Its location wasn’t known right away.
No information about the people on board has been made public.
The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration were told to look into it.
