Officials Launch Search for Man After Puppies Found Abandoned in Milk Crate Outside PA Police Station

The man who left a crate of puppies outside of an Enola, Pennsylvania, police office is being sought.

“Chris,” the name of the man who called the East Pennsboro Township Police Department on Oct. 11, said he had found seven puppies near Susquehanna-Perry Park in Enola, which is about 115 miles west of Philadelphia, according to a news statement from the police department Tuesday.

A little while later, a “milk crate with seven puppies” was found on the steps of the police station. The news release didn’t say how old the pups were or what kind they were.

“This act of abandonment poses a significant health risk to the puppies, as they are of care-dependent age and have been separated from their mother,” law enforcement said.

Authorities asking for help from the people

The police are now “seeking the public’s help in identifying” the person who did this. Anyone with information about what happened should call the police department or Detective Anthony Fiore at 717-732-3633 ext. 1620 or email him at [email protected].

Detective Anthony Fiore could not be reached right away for an update on the case, but he told PennLive that the “goal is to locate the person who brought the puppies to the police department and speak with him about the facts and circumstances which led him to find them and surrender them.”

With help from the Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area, the puppies have been moved to Davis Dog Farm in Grantville, which is about 20 miles from the police station.

In an email to USA TODAY, the shelter said that they are taking care of the pups. Some of the puppies, who were thought to be about four weeks old, had upper respiratory infections when they got to the shelter. The shelter said that they were checked out by a vet and that they are responding well to treatment. They “are happy and healthy,” and the shelter will do a DNA test to prove their breed.

It will be possible to accept the puppies when they are 8 weeks old, the shelter said.
