Heroic 13-Year-Old Dog Flags Down Officer to Help Elderly Owner After Fall

Keith Johnson, who is 84 years old, got help from his dog Gita when he was in trouble. People are calling the 13-year-old dog a “true hero” for pulling off the impossible. In a miraculous move, she was able to call the cops when her dad was in trouble, which saved his life.

Last month, John let Gita go outside when “something just felt off.”

Telling Good Morning America that he was “disoriented and dizzy,” he said, “I fell over and that’s when I knocked my hip out of joint and cracked it.”

The 84-year-old person couldn’t move for hours. Gista was the only one who could help him. Johnson then chose to talk to her and tell her to get help.

A post on the Stevens County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page says that’s when she met Dept. Sheriff Colton Wright, who was working a rural, wooded area of Stevens County. Wright tried to get Gita into his police car when he saw her, but she said no. He looked for the owner but couldn’t find anyone.

“Sensing something amiss, Wright went back to the dog which was now lying on the centerline,” it says. Wright tried to get the dog off the road, but she ran away. Gita led the police officer to the cabin where her master was still having trouble.

“He began checking around the area and observed an elderly male laying on the ground calling for help a short distance from the cabin,” the post says. “The 84-year-old man, who had other health problems that required regular medications, had hurt his leg when he fell.” “He had been lying there for hours, and if no one found him, he might have been hurt badly.”

Wright asks Johnson, “That’s your dog right there, right?” in a police video that GMA got.

He responded, “Yes, it is.”

Wright told him, “That’s a good dog man.”

“Yes, she is. Jones said, “She’s my best friend.”

Wright was taken to the hospital and is now getting better at a rehab center. USA TODAY says Johnson now thinks he was alone for six hours and that no one could hear him calling for help because he was so far away. Because of this, he told GMA that he was so grateful that Gita was with him on that terrible day.

“It makes me cry to think about her,” he said. “She was smart about what she did. Every time I talk to her, I tell her I love her.
