Saginaw, Michigan – A disturbing incident unfolded this week at a McDonald’s in Saginaw, Michigan, when a 48-year-old woman allegedly hurled a large cup of scalding coffee at a restaurant employee following a heated confrontation, according to authorities and video footage released by police.
Angry Customer Confronts McDonald’s Staff
The suspect, identified as Casharra Brown, reportedly became furious after waiting more than an hour for her online order. Surveillance video captured the nearly two-minute confrontation on Tuesday morning, showing Brown yelling at the fast-food manager and repeatedly calling her a “liar.”
“You’ve got your coffee,” the manager calmly responded, explaining, “That’s all that you were charged for. Your refund will take up to 48 hours.”
Coffee Assault Caught on Camera
The footage then shows Brown removing the lid from a large cup of hot coffee, leaning over the counter, and throwing the scalding liquid onto the manager’s back while shouting, “F–k you, b—h. Catch that hot-a– coffee!”
The manager screamed in pain as Brown stormed out of the restaurant. Police confirmed that the worker sustained minor injuries in the attack.
Police Response and Arrest Warrant
Authorities have issued a warrant for Brown’s arrest after receiving roughly 100 tips identifying her, following the release of the video on social media.
Buena Vista Detective Russ Pahssen told MLive that Brown’s residence is known, but police have been unable to locate her. “Within about two minutes, we had her identified,” he said. Prosecutors have been asked to charge Brown with felonious assault.
Comparison to Infamous McDonald’s Coffee Case
Although the injuries were minor, the incident drew comparisons to the infamous Stella Liebeck case in 1994, when a 79-year-old woman suffered third-degree burns from McDonald’s coffee. Liebeck sued the fast-food chain, ultimately receiving $160,000 in compensatory damages and a reduced $480,000 punitive award. At the time, the extreme temperature of the coffee (180–190°F) was a key point in the case.
Community Reaction
The video has alarmed the public, sparking discussions about customer behavior and restaurant safety. Authorities urge anyone with information regarding Brown’s whereabouts to come forward immediately.
