NEW YORK —
A Queens man was arrested last week for performing medical procedures without a license, the NYPD announced Wednesday.
According to police, on March 28, Felipe Hoyos-Foronda, 38, performed a medical procedure on a 31-year-old woman inside his home on 35th Street in Astoria.
The procedure caused the victim serious injuries, officials said.
A 38-year-old man has been arrested in Queens for allegedly carrying out unlicensed medical procedures in his home, police say. Authorities reported that the man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was operating outside of any medical certification or legal authority.
The arrest follows an investigation into suspicious activities within the residence, where the man reportedly provided various medical treatments without the proper credentials or oversight. The suspect is accused of practicing medicine without a license, which is a criminal offense.
According to law enforcement sources, the individual was offering unauthorized medical services to clients in exchange for payment, putting both his patients and himself at serious risk. Police are still investigating the full extent of the treatments he performed and whether anyone suffered harm.
This incident has raised concerns about the safety of unregulated medical practices, prompting authorities to remind the public of the importance of seeking medical care only from licensed professionals. The man has been charged with practicing medicine without a license and is expected to face further legal actions.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case and are urging anyone who may have been treated by the suspect to come forward.
Hoyos-Foronda is facing assault and unauthorized practice of profession charges.
The NYPD is asking any other victims or individuals with information on the above person to please come forward by calling the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
