OSHKOSH, Wis. — A 32-year-old Wisconsin man walked into the Oshkosh Police Department last week holding a handgun and confessed to shooting his boyfriend in their home’s basement, according to police.
Incident Details
Willie Rollins allegedly shot his boyfriend in the head following a dispute over paying their internet bill. After the shooting, Rollins calmly walked into the police station, placed the gun in a metal security tray, and told officers, “I just killed my boyfriend and he’s in the basement,” police said.
Alleged Motive and Relationship Background
According to a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime, Rollins claimed he felt “mentally abused” and feared being kicked out of his home. He and the victim had been in an on-and-off relationship for roughly 10 years.
The couple continued living together after breaking up a year prior, and both reportedly used methamphetamine. The victim’s mother told police that Rollins had threatened her son multiple times over the course of the relationship and relied on him financially.
Description of the Altercation
Rollins told police the fatal incident began after a dispute about paying the internet bill. When the Wi-Fi went out, the victim allegedly confronted Rollins while he tried to plug the router in. The argument escalated into a physical fight as the victim followed Rollins to the basement.
During the altercation, Rollins allegedly elbowed the victim, pushed him to the ground, and struck him with an office chair. He then drew his gun, firing two shots, one of which struck the victim in the head.
Confession and Arrest
After the shooting, Rollins drove to the Oshkosh Police Department and turned over his handgun. He admitted to police that the shooting was not completely necessary and acknowledged using methamphetamine leading up to the incident.
Officers found the victim in the basement “twitching” and “gasping for air” with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died.
Charges and Court Date
Rollins was arrested and charged with first-degree intentional homicide and methamphetamine possession. He is being held on a $750,000 bond and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 22.
