2 Students Injured, Suspect Dead in California School Shooting. PALERMO, CA — A school shooting in Palermo left two young pupils injured and a suspected shooter dead.
The incident took place at Feather River School of Seventh-Day Adventists, according to the sheriff’s office. According to Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea, there were reports of an active shooter on campus at approximately 1:00 p.m.
According to Honea, the shooter seems to have killed himself by shooting himself.
Although deputies have not verified the accuracy of that claim, he cited the early investigation to suggest that the suspect may have visited the campus to speak with the principal about enrolling a pupil. But he claimed that shortly after the meeting, the principal heard screaming and gunfire.
Two pupils, one aged five and the other six, were shot and injured. Both are in the hospital.
Before a bus arrived to transport the other pupils to the Oroville Church of the Nazarene on Monte Vista Avenue, they were led to the gym.
Before providing further information, Honea stated that although law enforcement thinks they know who the shooter is, they are still looking for the gunman’s next of kin. He went on to say that the school’s connection to the church might have been a factor in the shooting.
According to Honea, a driver in a gray four-door vehicle dropped the suspect off at the school. It’s unclear which way the automobile proceeded after dumping him off, but it drove off toward Highway 70. According to Honea, it might have been a ridesharing service.
As part of its investigation, the FBI is working with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the school’s website, which was last updated in January 2022, there are about 30 pupils enrolled.
The school’s statement of purpose states: “The Feather River Adventist School family exists to show children Jesus, nurture their love for Him and others, teach them to think, and empower them to serve.”
