If you could be anyone of your teammates who would you be and why?
I’d probably be Michael Levin because he’s a better at swimming than me. The way he approaches it is like, we both think it’s really tough but I think everyday he gives 100%. He really pushes himself. He’s also the best swimmer on the team and he’s really good at handling it. He doesn’t state it, he doesn’t care about that. He wants the team to win. So he cares more about everyone else.
How has this sport affected you as a person?
It has taught me a lot of things about working hard. What you put in, you get out. It’s not like other sports where you can take a break and come back and do well. It’s like everyday you have to swim and everyday you have to get better. Or else your body will lose shape and you won’t be as good as you can be at swimming. It’s really hard because every set is tough and you wanna stop but the whole team keeps you going. And that’s also because the team’s really close. I made some of my closest friends there.
What is your goal for the season?
This season, I want to make States and Sectionals. I don’t really care about winning everything because I know there are a lot of really good teams out there. I just want everyone to get better, and for everyone to get faster times. And us to be the best team possible that we can be.
How would you describe the team and your relationship with your teammates?
People think of swimming as a sport where individuals are swimming. But in reality everybody needs to push each one of us and everybody needs to try their hardest for everyone to get the most out of it. It’s just really rewarding when everyone finishes a set because it’s like everyone did it, everyone tried hard. Everyone’s friends; we have a bunch of dinners and stuff.
Is swimming your passion?
Yeah definitely. It’s the hardest thing I’ve done but at the same time, It’s the best thing I’ve done. It’s a sport that you hate and love because it’s so much pain, you can’t breath and everything. But everyone on the swimming team knows that during practice it’s the worst thing ever but right after you finish It’s the best feeling in the world. The second practice finishes, you feel really good and you’re hungry and you’re about to go home and eat your whole fridge and it’s just the best.
If you could be one professional athlete who would you choose to be?
I’d probably be Stephen Curry from the Golden State Warriors. Just because he can shoot from wherever. He practices a lot and he can just shoot from wherever he wants to. That’d be crazy, kinda cool to do.
